Introduction
Conservation projects are designed to broaden awareness of environmental issues worldwide and to introduce people to the challenges of balancing human needs with the need to conserve biological diversity. The Volunteer Programs in China provide a framework for people from various backgrounds to address topics in conservation and sustainable resource management through supervised field experiences in habitat restoration, public education, data collection, scientific research and endangered species preservation such as the giant panda in Sichuan Province.
The first focuses on the preservation and study of wildlife, while the other focuses on the preservation of one of the most recognized symbols of Chinese heritage and culture.

GIANT PANDA PROGRAM
The giant panda is one of the most critically endangered species in the world. It is estimated that there are fewer than 1,600 remaining in the world. Most of them reside in China's Sichuan and Shanxi provinces.
Volunteers in this program will have the rare opportunity to work at the China Conservation and Research Center for the giant panda located in the Wolong Nature Reserve. Volunteers will be working with giant pandas as well as other animals including China's golden monkey and the red panda.
CLEAN THE GREAT WALL PROGRAM
The World Monument Fund has listed the Great Wall among its "World's 100 Most Endangered Sites." China's most famous landmark was built over a period of 2,000 years to keep out barbarians from the north. Today, it has come to harm as a result of hordes of tourists writing on or carving their names and comments into the wall itself.
Volunteers will participate in a conservation project designed to clean, repair and save the Great Wall. Participants will have an opportunity to hike sections of the Great Wall which runs east to west about 4,500 miles through northern China. They will also be provided lessons by experts from the "Great Wall Society" in the history, and culture of the Great Wall.
