ABROAD CHINA'S PROCEDURES FOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS
APPLICATION PROCESS
Before submitting an application, be sure you have read all the details about the program and have chosen the program that is most suitable for your needs. Then decide which option ¨C Intern Only, Study Only (Summer Programs Only) or Intern/Study ¨C is best for you. At the bottom of each program description page is the APPLY NOW link through which you can submit your application. Please keep in mind that the application process is competitive, and Abroad China is not able to accept all candidates.
A notice of acceptance will be sent to applicants that are accepted into the program within 10 business days from when the application was received. In the acceptance notice, accepted candidates will be asked to fill out and return a letter of confirmation along with a $250 USD confirmation deposit. Receipt of the confirmation deposit will initiate the internship placement process (See Below). Applicants will receive an e-mail confirming receipt of their deposit, which will also give them further instructions. When final payment is made, a pre-departure package that includes information that may help candidates prepare for their abroad experience will be sent to the participant through regular mail. For a clearer picture about this process, see the flow chart below.

INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT PROCEDURE
OVERVIEW
Placement process begins with the online internship application. Candidates are asked to list three fields of interest such as accounting, marketing, business development, etc.
Internship placement process is broken down into three phases. The first is paying the deposit, followed placement, and ending with confirmation.
PAYING DEPOSIT
The initial step, after getting accepted to any of Abroad China's intern abroad programs, is to pay the confirmation deposit. When we receive your confirmation deposit, you will be sent a notice letting you know your deposit arrived safely. For this reason, we encourage all accepted applicants to pay their confirmation deposits as soon as possible. When the deposit is received, our China offices will begin to circulate your resume among our corporate clients in an effort to find a match between company and intern. The length of this process can vary, as each individual seeks a different type of internship and possesses different skill sets while each company has its own demands.
Abroad China will not begin to search for internships for individuals who have not paid their confirmation deposit.
PLACEMENT PROCESS
Abroad China works with numerous companies and has placed interns with both multi-national companies and local companies. However, applicants DO NOT get to choose which company they will intern at. Our placement team uses the information each applicant provides on his/her application form to find the most suitable match between intern and company.
One is given the opportunity to choose a primary, secondary and tertiary choice of industry on the application form. Abroad China's placement team works to find suitable internships for all of its candidates according to their primary industry choice. However, since it is not entirely under Abroad China's control (it is still the human resource manager of each company who decides which intern to take), we may sometimes refer to your second or third field of choice.
It is important to note that the types of internships and internship responsibilities very with the intern's qualifications, experience and specific needs of each company.
Abroad China is not able to secure internships in every industry or field. Applicants seeking internships in industries that Abroad China is unable to secure placement in, i.e. government, police, hospitals, etc., will not be accepted. Please refer to our Internship Examples page for the types of internships we have found for interns in the past.
INTERNSHIP CONFIRMATION
Abroad China guarantees all accepted applicants who have made their payments internship placement in one of the three chosen fields of interest, as indicated on their application. However, Abroad China will not be able to supply all applicants with details of their host company before arrival. Some may receive a notice that includes information about the company, web and street address, phone and fax number, their supervisor's contact information, and details about the tasks they will be performing during their internship, in the two weeks preceding arrival in China. In certain other cases, before the placement can be secured, an international telephone interview may be requested by the company seeking the intern.
Regardless, all participants are guaranteed internship placement in one of their three chosen fields of choice. Abroad China has never failed to secure internship placement for any of its applicants in the past, and will fully refund all payments in the event that we are unable to fulfill our placement guarantee.

Due to circumstances of the placement process, we cannot guarantee that all applicants will know the complete details of their internship before they arrive. Some companies will request an interview before accepting to take on the applicant as in intern. These interviews may be by phone or in person when the applicant arrives. Also, late applicants may not find out internship details until arrival; all candidates are expected to arrive by their programs start date.
HOUSING SEARCH PROCEDURE
For interns planning on staying in China for more than three (3) months (MBA and YP Programs), Abroad China will assist in finding a suitable apartment. Apartments typically range in price from 2500 RMB (~$350) per month to over 7000 RMB (~900) per month. Based on the intern's budget and other criteria, Abroad China will locate up to 3 suitable apartments and accompany the intern to view them. Additionally, Abroad China's staff will assist the intern in negotiating the lease price and signing the contract.
The intern is welcome to see more than the three (3) apartments Abroad China found; however, Abroad China's staff will not view the apartment with the intern. Abroad China's staff will help the intern to negotiate the price and assist in signing the contract.
Typically, the longer the lease period the more receptive a land lord will be to lower the lease price.
Although apartments come fully furnished, apartments typically lack cooking and eating utensils, bedding, towels, and other household items. These items will need to be purchased by the intern once the apartment has been found.
Temporary Hotel (Initial 3-day Hotel Stay)
Part of this accommodation service is the initial three (3) day stay in a two (2) star hotel. Upon arrival, participants will stay in a hotel for the initial 3 days, during which they will be shown apartments to lease (or other hotels for Short-Term participants). The cost of this three (3) day stay is included in the service package. However, hotels require a cash deposit of approximately 200-300 RMB ($27-60 USD) that the participant is required to pay. This deposit will be refunded given nothing in the hotel room is damaged or stolen. In addition, the cost of any extra days stayed in the hotel will not be covered by Abroad China. Two (2) star hotels average 240 RMB ($32 USD) per night in Beijing, 260 RMB ($35 USD) per night in Shanghai, and about 200 RMB ($27 USD) per night in other second tier cities.
